Meet Wendell, the founder of our shop.
Since my early childhood, I have always been surrounded by cars and trucks. My father always had something cool to drive. From as early as I can remember, it was muscle cars from the late sixties and seventies, or 4 wheel drive trucks and utility vehicles in the eighties. In my early teens, I started working for my father’s trucking company and was tasked with simple maintenance and repairs. By the time I was 16, I was rebuilding engines, swapping transmissions and rear ends. In my spare time, I was learning body and paint at home. While attending Mechanicsburg High School, I enrolled in the Auto Body Program at CPAVTS (Cumberland Perry Area Vo-Tech School). In Vo-Tech I honed my skills by repairing wrecks, frame straightening, welding, and refinishing all make and models. In my mid to late teens, I started restoring Classic Chevy Cars and Trucks.
In 1986 I met my wife Kelly. We were married in 1993 and purchased our first home in Mechanicsburg. We have two beautiful kids, Brady and Kaely and we still reside in Mechanicsburg. Kelly was a driving force in pushing me to start my business in 2008. I spent 12 years away from the automotive industry and she could see that I was unhappy with my job. She suggested I get back to something automotive, so I could work with your hands again. In 2007, we started looking for ideas when we heard of spray bedliners and soon after we started Wendell’s Performance Truck Shop to provide Accessories and Bedliners in Central PA and surrounding areas. Our first shop on Allen Street was just over 1,600 square feet. We moved to our current store in 2014 and our showroom is 1,600 square feet with a 4,000 square foot shop. In 2014 we also added rust protection services for our customers.
We are now in our 15th year of business and we are looking forward to many more years of providing Truck and SUV accessories and services to the wonderful residents of central PA.
